Jesse C. DeLee, M.D.
Dr. DeLee is an orthopaedic surgeon who
specializes in sports medicine and injuries and diseases of
the knee. Dr. DeLee attended the University of Texas at Austin
and Lamar State University. He entered the University of Texas
Medical Branch at Galveston in 1967, and he was awarded a
medical degree in 1970. His junior year Dr. Delee was admitted
to the AOA Honorary Medical Society. Dr. DeLee completed his
surgical internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch
in Galveston in 1971, and his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery
at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1975.
Dr. DeLee was awarded a Total Joint Replacement Fellowship with
Sir John Charnley in Wrightington, England in 1976. He
practiced orthopaedic surgery for two years in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
and then became a full-time member of the faculty of the
Department in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he remained until
1983. In 1983 Dr. Delee was awarded the prestigious American
Orthopaedic Association ABC Traveling Fellowship. Since then
Dr. DeLee has been in the private practice of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine in San Antonio,
Texas while maintaining an appointment as clinical professor in
the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of
Texas Health Science Center.
Dr. DeLee is board certified by the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a frequent speaker at national
and international medical meetings on topics in sports medicine
and joint arthroplasty. He served as a member of the board
of trustees of The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Dr. DeLee
has served as the visiting professor in orthopaedic surgery at
many prestigious universities in the United States and abroad.
Dr. DeLee has authored or
co-authored more than 40 articles in prominent medical
journals. He is the co-editor of Orthopaedic Sports
Medicine, which is considered to be the textbook of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is also co-editor of the quarterly publication
"Techniques in Sports Medicine," which presents new surgical
techniques in sports medicine, on a quarterly basis, to
orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. DeLee is the director of the ACGME accredited Orthopaedic
Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Texas Health
Science Center, San Antonio. This fellowship awards post
residency training in sports medicine to two orthopaedic
surgeons each year.
Dr Delee has served as team physician for St. Mary's
University, Tom C. Clark High School, and Sam Houston High
School for more than twenty years. He has also served as
co-team physician for Winston Churchill High School and many
other schools in and around the San Antonio area. In addition,
Dr. Delee serves as chairman of the UIL Medical Advisory
Committee for high school athletics.
Dr Delee Founded the Nix Medical Center Sports Medicine Clinic
in 1984. This clinic is held each Saturday at the Nix Hospital
and serves the sports medicine needs of San Antonio area
athletes.
Since 1989 Dr Delee has co-sponsored academic scholarships,
through the Delee-Evans Foundation, to deserving San Antonio
area students who are pursuing a degree in athletic training.
To date these scholarships, have totaled more than $300,000.
